MTV killed 1970's Album Oriented Rock

Little music history lesson:

In the 1970's, Blue Oyster Cult was a headlining rock act, and filled some large venues.

They were, however, ugly to look at. Their fans did not notice this at the arenas and stadiums at which they played. At 1,000 feet away, how can you tell? The 1970's were a good time to be an ugly rocker. You could hide behind a huge mass of long hair, beards and mustaches. No one need know you had been beat upon with an ugly stick.

With the rise of MTV, the band was doomed. Music videos featured close up shots of pretty boys, which BOC was not. Long hair and beards were out.

"Burning for You" was BOC's biggest radio hit, so naturally the band produced a video of it for MTV.

Watch how the producers of the video try to conceal how ugly the band members are. There are NO close up shots of any band members, indeed, most of them are seen only at a distance. The frontman, though seen in closer view, is kept in dim lighting and shadows. He is apparently their best looking guy, but even with makeup and lighting, he is no pretty boy, so he gets no real close up, and any time you seem him, there are distractions on the screen to divert your focus on his less than sexy appearance.

And actors are used to fill in the story line, instead of band members, as was usually done, like with Duran Duran, for example. Duran Duran, these boys arre not.

Next and Be Like You

Next is a show that I have seens just a few times, and every time its been medeocre. In my opinion, anyone that needs to get on a television show just to get laid or get a date has some serious issues. They are probably not relationship material. And hlf the guys on there are players anyway...as most of them say, if the girls dont go on another date with them "She was ugly anyway...I just wanted to fcuk her" yada yada.

I saw one with a a Gay guy. He was narcisistic and the guys that would have gone out with him were actually kind of nice. The girls sometimes do this sisterhood thing, which shows that girls band together when guys are dicks. The last one I saw was this girl that ditched the guy because he nexted the other girls, demonstrating his shallowness. All the people seem to be fake wanabe GirsGoneWild video members of drop out jocks. Seriously...some of the girls are so fake...look at the way the try to runway strut to the bus and talk like the girls that are on late night phone sex comercials. what about the jockey girl that nexted guys the minute they walked out? Next is insecure wads that obviously need to get some mental health help to get over their issues.

Whats that all about? People that are nice, kind, average wanting to be like bitches and jerks? The one with the guy Clam and that dropwad snowboarder. he called the guy a dork on TV and then made fun of him. Im glad that the guy actually said he would be "medium Clam" because the other guy was mean and rude.

I was at a friend's house and we were flipping the stations and we stopped on this show called, NEXT. What big piece of shit this is!! All it does is promote stupid spoiled shits to become even more shallow and rewards them with 15 minutes of fame. "hmmm... I don't like your no-name brand shoes. That must mean you don't have money because your poor, so fuck off!... err ehem... I mean, NEXT!!". What is that!! Plus, I love how whenever someone on that show talks to the camera, they looked like they were reading right off a cue card. Most of this new generation sucks along with MTV.

Mtv Reality shows suck!

Who gives a shit about seven strangers or whoever many living in a house together? They suck, the show sux! The true life shit, who gives a fuck? I have to say mtv is not what it use to be.... I'm glad I dont pay for my cable, what a rip off.... The shit is not fit for kids to watch.... I've been to the mtv site several times, looking for a link to email them.... I have not found that link, I'd give em my opinion about their fucked up shit! And the r&b, rap shit sux ass, and the new rock bands seem to suck as well...... All I gotta say is Fuck Mtv right in their stupid fucking asses!!!!!

They play nothing but re-runs of crap. Hell TRL plays .25 seconds of a music video, then they play 45 commercials. Then they do something stupid. Then the skip a few music video's and just tell you who made 9,8,7,and 6. Then they play ten seconds of 5 through 2. And of course the number 1 music video is some pile of shit that 10 billion little teeny boppers picked because they think the boy bands are the bomb. Of course the actuall truth is that all boy bands are just fronts for gay love. All the money that Backstreet Boys make goes straight to that wretched San Fransico. And why do I pay for this channel, I should go back to stealing cable.

I drive home and see billboards on the roadside owned by Viacom. I turn on my TV and MTV is showing me everything but music. I flip to VH1 and it is the same shit. I say fuck Viacom and click off the tube....until my daughter comes in the room and clicks on Nickelodian (sp) owned by Viacom...u see a trend here? I walk out of my the room and decide to watch some sports on CBS in my own bedroom. They too are owned by Viacom. Damn...can a guy just get some decent programming here? Maybe something educational like watching JEOPARDY will chill me out. Oh, Kingworld produces it and it is owned by Viacom? Shit.I flip channels and see tits and ass on Showtime....hmmm Viacom. Keep flipping past UPN,BET and Spike TV which are owned by (everybody now)VIACOM and i finnaly decide to just kill the damn TV. I ask my lil girl if she would like to play some video games....she pulls out her favorite:Spongebob Square pants. His daddy is named Viacom. Hmmmm nevermind sweetie lets go rent a movie....oh, how about Viacom owned Blockbuster video? nah.... lets get some fresh air...ahh good idea. Wanna go to the amusement park?? Sure daddy lets go to Paramounts Great America and get on the rides!!!!!.....sure why not, Viacom owns them to....

and they own me, you, and my parents who watch Nick at Night.

Remember when there was Yo! MTV Raps, Remote Control, Top 20 countdowns, and the like? I wouldn't mind haveing an MTV Classic station (like ESPN), that airs these old spots (and videos) that made MTV what it is today.

I don't hate mtv, but right now, I can't stand to watch it or its programming. Even the Award shows are now as good as they used to be.

Remote Control

I was flipping though channels last night and came across a refrence to the old game show "Remote Control". I used to watch this all the time. Watching the show over and over made me realize how well I could have done. I would get soo pissed when the last person ended up in the chair and could tell it was Oingo Boingo upsidedown on one of those tiny screens.
